United Christian was the result of an opportunity for growth and expansion from Mount Zion Baptist Church located on fourteenth Ave. N in Columbus MS. Amiz Bailey Jr. was the senior pastor he had a few faithful members who supported his vision of growth and expansion. Soon word spread of Pastor Bailey’s new location at 210 seventh St. South Columbus MS. Soon after members and others from the community gathered on Sunday mornings to hear the Word of God. There was standing room only as the people flooded the building anxious to hear Pastor Bailey speak God's word. Pastor Bailey was known for his eloquence in speaking and his method of teaching was perceived by all. On September 13,1983 United Christian Church held groundbreaking ceremony at Hwy 69 location where the current site still resides. Pastor Bailey maintained the office as senior pastor from 1980 – 1986.

 

After Pastor Baileys resignation, there was a need to find a suitable replacement. During the prayerful search Rev. Jesse Sherron was mentioned. The board of deacons reached out to Rev. Sherron to inquire of his interest in fulfilling the office of senior pastor. He graciously accepted the assignment. Pastor Sherron remained as senior pastor from 1987 until his passing in March 2008.

 

Prior to the passing of Pastor Sherron, United Christian had a guest speaker named Elder Steven L. James unknowingly at the time he would be anointed to fulfill the office of senior pastor at United Christian.
